Monitor Lizard
I ran over a monitor lizard with our heavy sliding glass door! Seriously. I didn't even know I did it. I went outside and when I tried to shut the door it was hard to close, like it had got off track or something. I just ignored it, sat outside for a bit with Liam in my arms, then went back inside. The door was still hard to open and when I got inside to shut the door, it was super hard to shut now and as I look down, an 18 inch (I kid you not!) monitor lizard was under the door, stuck on the sliding track, half his body inside, half out, cut in 2 and stuck in my door!!!!! It set the entire door off track, so I couldn't get it shut and in fear another lizard would run inside I had to keep shovin' the door shut while continually mutilating this meaty, scaley body in the track.

If you don't know what a monitor lizard is, go to
It has a super long tail, long claw feet, ewwww!!! I've seen it outside before, but just through our window, but now 1/2 of it was in my house and I almost had a heartattack. I mean, that is a big chunk of meat to just squish under a heavy door. The thing that freaks me out is that if I hadn't run it over and gotten it stuck, I think it was trying to run into my house! I called Sean at work. He was concerned, but laughing at the same time. I almost made hime come home, but he said to just call the condos front office to get help. Oh, but before I did that, could I make sure to get some good pictures of it so he could see later. AHHHHHHH!! I called our condo office and they sent over Roger, my hero to help me get it out. He just chuckled at me then shoved the door open back over the already mangled body and flicked the remainder of it outside out of my house. He just laughed at me, still hyperventilating. Oh, and all the while, Liam is inside, safe on a chair, screaming with glee because he just thought he and mommy were having fun making new screaming sounds. Oh my, I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Yuck!!
I'm going to post a picture of it, so just don't scroll down if that freaks you out.

Liam goes swimming
Liam has been in the water since he was 3 months old and went under water on day one. Here is a little glimpse into swimming with Liam.

Liam wears the works! Hat, glasses, rashe, shorts, and sunscreen.
I wouldn't say Liam LOVES swimming, but he doesn't cry. He just stays pretty serious.
5 months old.
Naked at the beach!
He loves his sunglasses.

Check out Guam!
A long time ago in and ocean far away was the little island of Guam. It was minding it's own business when along came an explorer, Magellan. Guam was basically taken over by the Spanish and used as a port to stop over from Indonesia and East Asia on the way to Mexico (since the Spanish owned Mexico as well). Here are some photos of us visiting downtown Hagatna (the capital city). Right in the downtown are remnants from old Spanish buildings that housed troups, arms, the govenor, etc. back the day.
You'll see many Spanish/Latin looking names here in Guam (ex. Sanchez, Cruz, Duenas, Guerro, Enriquez) as well as island names (ex. Catahay, Musngi, Naputi) since the spanish colonized it. Then, America took it over from Spain after the Spanish-American War, lost it to the Japanese after the Pearl Harbor bombing, then America took it back 2 years later. Guam has been an American Territory ever since. Quiz tomorrow everyone.
This is a Latte Stone (pronounced laa-tee, not la-tay). At the Latte Stone park there are 6 original Latte Stones from ancient Guam times. Even ancient writings don't tell the story of where these came from, but historians do know that they were used as pillars to hold up their buildings. They are pretty big, wouldn't you say? Latte Stone stuff is found all over Guam. It's kinda a Guam symbol.

Colorado Part II
The world ends when technology fails.....I hate that. Coming from someone who once said, "I'll never own my own computer!", I am lost without mine. I've sold out. The computer I have been using is Sean's. He bought it before we were married, but since he now has a work computer, the old one became mine. BUT, technically, I didn't buy it, it's not mine.
Anyways, in the world or computers, ours was old. 5 years old and it finally has shut down. I left off the last blog at Colorado trip Part I, so Part II has been on delay since all our photos were on that computer. I have a chance to use Sean's now, so we'll just do a verbal update, no photos.
We left Denver on a Tuesday and for the first time in 7 months we drove for over 4 hours in one sitting (you know you've been on Guam too long when driving 20 minutes is too long!). We loved it!
First stop, Liam met his Uncle Kevin, Aunt Cindy and his first cousins Dillon and Keely!!!! Kevin is slowly but surely healing from a scary motorcycle accident, so we were just happy to see him again.
We finally made it to Montrose and stayed with Sean's mom, Ruth. She is a great sport since we last minute cancelled her plans to visit us in Guam when we decided we needed to come home. So, she had first dibs on Liam! It was their first meeting.
During our time, Liam also met for the first time Grandpa Sully and Grandma Melissa, Aunt Sara and Erin, and our good friends Julie Cassidy and her girls, and Jacob and Rachel Carroll and their kids.
We spent one night at Grandpa Sully's cabin which was heaven for 3 island folks. There was fresh snow when we woke up, we enjoyed a great dinner, wine on the deck all bundled up, but enjoying the Colorado sun at the same time. We ended at the Ouray hot springs where Liam had his first dip under water! He wore his cute little monkey hat while soaking in the warm water surrounded by snow covered mountains. I think he liked it.
We colored easter eggs with Grandma Ruthie and Liam ended up with multiple Easter stickers all over his face. Grandma Ruthie also had bought Liam this great monkey play mat with hanging toys and for the first time he was really reaching for things and focusing on hitting them. Oh the simple joys in life! We were all so esstatic!
Easter was spent at Grandma and Grandpa Slu's in the AM and Grandma Ruthie's in the PM. My sister Sara had flown in from DC the friday before and Erin has been living in Montrose right now while she pursues a new direction for career (her 3 large dogs in tow!). Aunt Sara and Erin weren't that impressed with Liam's lack of abilities, but they sure tried their darndest to get him to smile. Of course a few "Friends" episodes were re-enacted pertaining to babies (Emma, the triplets, Ben, etc.) and Liam either smiled or looked confused by their attention to him. I don't know if I laughed more than he smiled. They were surprised at how little he did do though.
Kevin, Cindy and the kids came down for dinner at Ruth's where we enjoyed Easter eggs and way too much candy! Sean, Liam and I made it up to Grand Junction just 1 more time to hang out with the Sullivan's again and I think Keely and Dillon made just as big of fools of themselves as my sisters did to get Liam to smile. We got a great photo of Keely and Dillon from Liam's viewpoint (and it was scary!).
The rest of the time was spent just doing regular things with Liam with the Grandparents; changing diapers, going on walks, cleaning up spit up, etc. Grandpa Slu made sure Liam had some time playing with the John Deere tractors he has for Liam. I spent some time just walking around Target just to look. Does everyone out there reading this realize how many stinking choices of things we have?! Don't get me wrong, Guam has everything we need and more, but the mainland has everything you need, want, imagine, desire, don't need, think you need, convince yourself you need and tell others you need. It's a wonder our economy is a mess. We have too many choices and too much crap. Although, I confess, I think Target is pretty. I am one of those people that buys my Starbucks when I get there and puruse the aisles, buying "stuff". I guess I've been programmed and maybe Guam will de-program me. But don't we always proudly talk about how little we needed as kids growing up and how our parents lived in smaller houses, drove smaller cars and we used to play outside more. I dream of a simpler time and Guam is deffinately giving that to us.
I digress....our time was very fun and so good to see family and friends. The trip ended with us saying some sad good-byes then driving to Denver in time to clean up at the Smith's where the McClellan's brought us some yummy pizza for dinner, then we headed over to the Porter's to end the time where we started. Those poor Porter's! We sucker them into 4am drop offs to the airport by saying they are our last stop, "we save the best for last". I was impressed....Denise was actually semi-chipper that early! The trip home was Denver to Houston to Tokyo to Guam, another 20 hours. Liam was a champ again.
If I've forgotten anything, let me know in the comments....we did make this trip about 2 months ago! One big sidenote, it's really sad how Liam doesn't get to see his family more often. We really miss them. He just grows so fast!
